Santander will close 23 of its high road branches in June as half of a wider plan to close 95 areas throughout the UK by September. Ten more will stop trading in the week starting June 23, and the ultimate 4 will shut on Monday, June 30.It is believed that round 750 jobs are at risk due to the nationwide cuts.A spokesperson for Santander UK stated: “As customer behaviour changes, we are ensuring that our branches remain fit for the future.“Our new combination of full-service branches, alongside work cafés, counter-free branches and reduced-hours branches, aims to provide the right balance between digital banking and face-to-face money management and guidance.“Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision, and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimise the impact it may have on our customers.”Once the closures are full, Santander may have 349 websites throughout the UK, together with 290 full-service branches, 5 work cafés, and 36 reduced-hours websites.Eighteen branches will go counter-free as half of the adjustments.The bank says digital transactions have elevated by 63% since 2019, whereas in-branch transactions have fallen by 61% over the identical period.
